  • Agriculture Science 1
    • Students will develop knowledge and skills that will provide a foundation for courses in animal science, plant science, horticulture, agriculture systems and technology, and natural resources. Topics covered include basic animal, plant, soil science; natural resources; food science technology, agribusiness, personal and leadership development. Emphasis is put on current trends and career opportunities.
  • Animal Science 1
    • Students will develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of scientific principles, including genetics, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, disease, reproduction, and management practices. Students will have a better understanding of the livestock and meat industries and will be better prepared to understand modern day agricultural issues. This course is highly recommended for those wanting to move on the veterinary program at the JATC. There is no need for prior animal or agriculture experience.
  • Floriculture
    • Students will be exposed to greenhouse operations and management practices that will prepare the students to produce commercial plant species in a controlled environment and to manage commercial and experimental greenhouse operations. Curriculum emphasis is greenhouse management. Participation in the FFA youth leadership organization may be an integral part of this course.
  • Accounting 1
    • “Accounting is the language of Business!” This course provides students with the knowledge of business organizations by understanding the accounting theory, concepts and procedures. Accounting 1 focuses on the double-entry accounting systems related to a service business organized as a sole proprietorship. Students will acquire knowledge of journalizing and posting transactions, worksheets, financial statements and accounting concepts and procedures essential to the accounting cycle.
  • Accounting 2
    • Accounting 2 continues to apply the concepts of double-entry accounting to a merchandising business. Additional skills include dealing with uncollectible accounts, calculating depreciation on assets, interpreting financial information, calculating notes and interest, payroll systems and special journals.
  • Business Management
    • Have you ever thought about being your own boss? Do you want to call the shots and reap the benefits of being in charge? Do you want to learn what makes Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos successful? What is the difference between Bill Gates and Michael Scott? Join the discussion in Business Management. This course seeks to develop sound management concepts within students, as management plays a role in any future employment opportunity. Students are able to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate data from the other functional areas of business (e.g., marketing, finance, and production/operation). Effective management requires decision-making abilities, long-range planning knowledge, human relations expertise, and motivational skills. Students learn the four basic functions of management: planning, organizing, directing, and controlling.
  • Business & Marketing Capstone
    • The purpose of this course is to research and solve real-world business needs. This course is designed for advanced business students to further their business knowledge and skills. Students will be encouraged to think analytically, logically and creatively to integrate experience and knowledge in real-world situations. Membership and participation in DECA and FBLA is highly encouraged
  • Business Office Specialist
    • Find out why Microsoft Office is used by 80% of the largest and most successful companies in America. This class focuses on three key Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Learn how to create and edit intricate word documents, manage data in spreadsheets, and put together strong presentations. There is a strong chance you will need to know this software in college and in the professional world, get a leg up now.
  • Financial Literacy
    • This is one of the most important classes you will take in high school! Learn how manage your own finances and survive in the real world. Topics covered include: budgeting, investing, credit, and taxes among others. All units cover material that will be used in your day to day adult life.
  • Marketing 1
    • Why is it that after talking about blue couches with your friend, all you see on your Instagram feed are blue couches? Why do people KEEP coming to your door even when you shoo them away? Are you interested in starting a brand? Do you want to receive tips and guidance on a new product/service you are dying to create? Do you want to learn how to sell ice to an Eskimo?!   • Retailing/School Store
    • Did somebody say Frazils and grilled cheese?! Rather than sitting in a classroom, get some hands-on experience in the PACK SHACK! If you see yourself owning a business one day, this class is PERFECT for you! We will learn all about the ins and outs of a successful business. The decision is yours regarding what to sell, how much to sell it for, and how to get customers to buy the product. Don’t look back, wishing you would have taken this opportunity!
  • Sports & Entertainment Marketing

  • Travel & Tourism
    • This course provides the student with an understanding of one of the largest industries in the world. Specific applications include the evolution of the tourism industry, destination geography, airlines, international travel, car rentals, travel by rail, cruising, hospitality industry, tours, and marketing & sales. Students taking marketing classes should have the opportunity to participate in the DECA Organization (student marketing leadership organization). DECA related activities and curriculum can be used as an approved part of all marketing classes
  • Real Estate

Students will learn about the method and process of buying and selling real property, property rights, deeds, contracts and mortgages, the appraisal process, and financing. Whether you’re looking to be a future agent, invest in real estate, or just learn about the home buying process, Real Estate is the class for you!

  • Computer Programming 1
    • This beginning course teaches the basics principles of programming and the Java language. Students will learn to design, code, and test their own programs while applying mathematical concepts and using a programming approach to solve problems.

    • Programming 2 is a problem solving class that builds on the concepts introduced in Computer Programming 1. The course introduces students to more complex data structures and their uses, including sequential files, arrays and classes using the Java programming language.

  • Web Development 1
    • Ever wonder why websites look the way that they do? If you have this class is for you! Web Development is an introduction to web based coding which allows students to create their own web sites from scratch. Basic languages covered include HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This class also creates images to display on web sites using Adobe Photoshop. Anyone who likes to create content and problem solve would be a good fit for this class.
  • Digital Media 1
    • The course focus will be on using Adobe Photoshop as a tool to produce CG imagery for web design, video production, photo illustration, digital publishing and animation. Adobe Illustrator, Premiere, InDesign HTML, and Autodesk Maya will be introduced as required. This is a college course taught in conjunction with Digital Media 1. Students who want the college credit will be required to do extra assignments.
  • ART 1080 – Photoshop
    • The course focus will be on using Adobe Photoshop as a tool to produce CG imagery for web design, video production, photo illustration, digital publishing and animation. Adobe Illustrator, Premiere, InDesign HTML, and Autodesk Maya will be introduced as required.
  • Production Graphics 2
    • Take what you learned in ART 1080/Digital Graphic Art Intro and apply it to real life! In this class students will: Create, produce and reproduce visual graphics that communicate to an audience; Develop knowledge and skills relative to the graphic design & printing industries; Apply effective principles and techniques to project designs; Print various projects for yourself and customers. Instruction will include how to use professional printing equipment and use the industry standard graphics software with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Baking & Pastry
    • Have you always loved baking yummy things for your family and friends to try? Do you ever picture yourself on the Great British Baking show? This class is for you! This class will give you an overview of the baking and pastry industry within the culinary arts field. Students will produce specialty breads, pastries, cakes, frozen desserts, and tortes. They will also have an opportunity to identify the principles of blown and spun sugar, chocolate and marzipan in a variety of confections and demonstrate the use of the baker’s formula as well as baker’s measuring techniques. Students will demonstrate workplace skills throughout the entirety of the course and practice skills in safety and sanitation.

  • Child Development
    • Learn about children from pregnancy to preschoolers. We teach parenting tips, how to interact with children, and also incorporate fun art activities. You will also have a chance to take the RealCare baby home in this course.

  • Early Childhood Education 1 Curriculum
    • Prepare to be a Preschool Teacher in this class! We teach you math, science, art, and language arts skills for preschoolers (think popping popcorn, making slime, and math using M&Ms). This class is the 2nd step after Child Development and takes off where Child Development ended. Take this class to also prepare you to teach in our Silver Pups Preschool.

    • Come be a Silver Pups Preschool Teacher! There’s nothing better than receiving hugs and being told you’re their favorite teacher from our cute 4-year-olds. You also get to be part of a child’s learning and growth, which is such a special experience. And if that’s not enough, we do eat snack every day 🙂 This is a full year class and 2 periods in length. You can either be an A Day teacher (2/3 period) or a B Day teacher (6/7 period).

Topics: current styles & trends, colors & shapes that look best for your individual body type, trends to stay away from, dressing to hide figure flaws, organizing & planning a wardrobe, fashion designers, & fashion history!

  • Foods & Nutrition 1
    • This course is the beginning food class that focuses on the science of food and nutrition. Experiences will include food safety and sanitation, culinary technology, food preparation and dietary analysis to develop a healthy lifestyle. Students will enjoy food lab experiences focusing on basic nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and vitamin and minerals to strengthen comprehension of concepts and standards outlined in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. Training to obtain a Food Handler’s permit will be offered.

  • Culinary 1
    • Culinary 1 builds on the cooking techniques and nutrition principles learned in Foods 1. This class covers food preparation, nutrition, safety, sanitation, management, and consumerism that are used in the home and industry. Culinary labs include soups, salads, sauces, knife skills, breads, pastries, meats, and nutritious meals.

  • Interior Design 1
    • This is a basic course for future architects, interior designers and consumers in which students learn to use the basic elements and principles of design to finish and decorate a home. Units include: color, floor planning, window and wall treatments, fabric and textile use, furniture selection/care and room arrangement. NOTE: A fee may be charged for consumable items used in this class. Participation in the FCCLA youth organization may be an integral part of this course.

  • Interior Design 2
    • This course provides students the opportunity to develop skills in applying the elements and principles of design to interiors. Projects are integrated throughout the course to provide applications as the students study architecture, furniture styles and constructions, surface treatments and backgrounds, design and function of space, and lighting.

  • INTD 1010 Interior Design
    • This is a Concurrent Enrollment class offered through SLCC. This class will count towards your Fine Arts requirement. In this class, students will get a crash course of all things Interior Design. It is a combination of both Interior Design 1 & 2. It is a great class to take if you ever thought about becoming an Interior Designer.

  • Prostart 1
    • This advanced course from the National Restaurant Association introduces students into the world of professional cooking. Basic communication skills, safety and sanitation, food preparation, meal planning, and other topics are taught in this beginning course. Participation in the FCCLA youth organization may be an integral part of this course. This course meets for two periods of the eight period block schedule (ProStart 1 taught with Culinary Management). Food Handlers Permit is required. ProStart and ServeSafe certifications are part of the curriculum.

    • Students will receive additional training for career opportunities in Culinary Arts and the Hospitality Industry. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice safety and sanitation procedures, and maintain food service equipment. Students will perform quantity food preparation as it relates to catering, bakery, restaurant, hospitality, and quick service business operations. Greater emphasis will be placed on employment skills, management operations, and business and marketing practices. Student leadership and competitive events (FCCLA) will be integrated into this course. Plus you will learn how to fix all those rips, holes, and tears in your jeans and backpack!

    • Ready to make some cool, trendy items totally custom to you? We’re going to kick up your skills a notch with basic tailoring, zippers, pleats, darts, gathers, & other impressive skills. Creativity is highly encouraged in projects that may include: toiletry or gym bag, customized skirt, tailored shirt or a hoodie! You will be hitting the fabric store more than once to find amazing fabrics for your projects. The possibilities are endless!

  • Commercial (Digital) Photo 1
    • This course is an introduction to the field of commercial photography. This course will cover a number of basic concepts, including but not limited to: purchasing a digital camera; image capture; image editing; and image output. This course will also feature Adobe Photoshop, its features and use. These concepts will enable the student to be more knowledgeable and prepared to enter the field of commercial photography. If available students are advised to continue on with the Commercial Photography 2 or AP 2D Studio Art course.     • This course is designed for students who want to further enhance their photographic knowledge and abilities. It is an application of the skills learned in Digital Photography with an emphasis on professional jobs and assignments used in commercial photography. A portfolio of each student’s work is expected at the end of the course.Since there is an industry standard for this type of work, access to a Digital SLR camera is required for the Commercial Photography course.     • Students in this course will produce a weekly video to highlight what is happening at Riverton High. This course is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills related to the television production industry. Instruction includes hands-on assignments in the following areas: camera operation, recording audio, lighting systems, pre-production, production, post-production, visual effects and graphics, and copyright laws.   • Film 1045 Beginning Film Production
    • An intensive workshop experience in which students, crewing in their area of specialization, complete the shooting and post-production of projects up to 15 minutes in length.

  • Health Science, Intro
    • If you are interested in going into the medical field this year long class is the class for you. It is a combination of Health and introduction into the anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, medical ethics, diseases and disorders of the 11 body systems. This course prepares students for the Medical Anatomy/Physiology course and a variety of other pathways and classes in the medical field. This class will include many dissections and hands-on activities that will compliment the learning environment.

  • RHS 2300 (Emergency Response)
    • Emergency Medical Response is a dynamic 56-hour course featuring lecture, video, simulated emergency situations, discussion and hands-on skill practice based on the national EMS curriculum requirements and educational standards.

  • Medical Anatomy and Physiology
    • If you are interested in a medical career or want to get into the JATC health career programs this class is a must! This class prepares students for the medical field by gaining a base understand of the human body. It is recommended students take intro to health science prior, but is not required. We will do many hands on dissections to help students visually understand the material. Students are more likely to succeed in JATC medical programs when taken this class prior to their JATC program.

  • HTHS 1110 Human Anatomy 1
    • This is a college anatomy course taught through Weber and proctored by Ms. Perkins. This anatomy credit is a prerequisite to all medical careers. Any student who is pursuing a medical career should take this course. You will be receiving college credit for a high school student discounted tuition rate! This class requires 10-12 hours of work outside of class per week, but it is well worth the work. Students have shown higher success rates in this class when taken in high school versus college.

  • HTHS 1111 Human Anatomy 2

    • This class is a MUST for anyone interested in a career in the Medical field. You will become familiar with 350 words and elements along with 350 abbreviations. Take MA1100 and you can get college credit!

  • Sport Medicine & Exercise Science
    • Want to be an Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist? This is the class for you! This course will introduce students how to prevent, recognize, and treat various injuries and conditions. We will discuss areas of nutrition, how to improve ones performance, sport psychology, ethic, how to tape various joints and much more. This is a year long class.

    • Join us as we discover how our daily habits affect our overall health and well-being. We will study self-concept, effective communication, healthy relationships, and mental health. You will learn the art of taking care of yourself and others. This course is not designed for the student to diagnose themselves, friends, family or others.

    • This is a course for juniors and seniors only. Students will experience practical applications for the concepts learned in the classroom that will allow them to explore career options and gain experience on which to base career decisions. Students will learn workplace skills through participating in regular seminar classes and by observing and interacting with professionals in the business community.   • Law Enforcement
    • This is a program that prepares individuals to perform the duties of police security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control, public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management. Taught by the RHS Student Resource Officer.

Auto Mechanics & Repairs

  • Auto 1
    • Through demonstrations, lectures, research and practical experiences is designed to introduce the student to a broad experience in the use of: equipment, tools, materials, processes and techniques of automotive service. TAKE AUTO 1 CE and get college credit for the course! This is a one-semester course of instruction.

    • An advanced-level course in Automotive Service that deals with the overall chassis of a vehicle. This course is designed to assist students in broadening their experience, through the use of equipment, tools, materials, processes and techniques in inspecting, diagnosing, and servicing of automobiles.     • An advanced-level course in Automotive Service that deals with the engine and related components. This course is designed to assist students in broadening their experience, through the use of equipment, tools, materials, processes and techniques in inspecting, diagnosing, and servicing of automobiles. Take AUTO 3 CE and get college credit for the course! This class is taught for 2 periods

    • This is a course that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skill to maintain and repair small internal-combustion engines used on portable power equipment, such as lawn and garden equipment. Work ethics, productivity, and safety are an integral part of the classroom and laboratory activities of these classes.

Woodworking

  • Woods 1
    • Do you need a class where you can get your hands dirty and learn a new skill? This course prepare individuals to use power tools and machinery. This is an activity-oriented course open to all students that covers the fundamentals of woodworking. Students receive instruction related to safety, proper use of tools, operation of woodworking equipment, joinery, wood finishing, and the many processes used to transform lumber into finished products. Student projects are an important part of the course. This course prepares students for advanced woodworking courses.

    • This second course in a sequence that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to prepare and execute furniture design projects; assemble and finish furniture articles; repair furniture; and stresses the safe use a variety of hand and power tools and machinery.

    • This advanced course in a sequence of courses that prepare individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to operate industrial woodworking machinery, and to use machinery to design and fabricate custom cabinets and architectural millwork. It stresses the safe use of trade hand and power tools and machinery used in the production of millwork items. Cabinets, such as kitchen and vanities are constructed, finished, and installed as part of this program.
